Engineering: Performing Manufacturing Operations Level 2 Apprenticeship

Start Date / Duration

You can start an apprenticeship at any time throughout the year. This programme will take a minimum of 12 months to complete.

Entry requirements
  • You will need to be at least 16 years of age and must hold three GCSEs at grade A*-D, including GCSE English at grade 3 or above and GCSE maths at grade 4 or above
  • You need to be employed within an engineering role or have an employer in this area willing to take you on as an apprentice

Level 2 NVQ in Performing Manufacturing Operations
Level 2 Award in Industrial Environmental Awareness
Level 2 Intermediate Certificate in Performing Manufacturing Operations

Course overview

The Performing Manufacturing Operations apprenticeship equips learners with the basic skills and knowledge to carry out a range of engineering and manufacturing processes at semi-skilled and operator level.

Course content

You will study all of the mandatory units and choose three optional units until you reach a minimum of 62 credits. You will also study:

  • Level 2 NVQ in Performing Manufacturing Operations (to be completed in company)
  • Level 2 Award in Industrial Environmental Awareness (booklet and online exam)
  • Employment, Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) booklet
  • Level 1 Functional Skills in English and maths
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Mandatory Units

  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
  • Promoting effective working relationships
  • Contributing to effective team working

 

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments. You will be assessed both in college and in your place of work.

What equipment will I need?

You will be required to provide paper, writing materials, A4 ring binder file, extra wide dividers and clear plastic wallets.

Where will I study?

You will study within the workplace and attend classes at Barnsley College’s (STEM) Science Technology Engineering and Maths Centre, Old Mill Lane, Barnsley, S70 2LA.

What can I do next?

Upon completion you could progress onto the Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering or apply for job roles including:

  • Metal Operatives
  • Machine Operatives
  • Maintenance Operative

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

English and Maths

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths or a higher level maths qualification we can help you do that too.
