Entry requirements

  • Two GCSEs at grade 4/C or above plus English at grade 3/D or above

You will achieve

On completion of the course you will achieve the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Event Planning and an Extended Certificate in Business.

Course overview

If you are considering a career in events planning and management, including conferences, music festivals, weddings and sporting events, then this is the course for you. It provides you with the opportunity to develop your knowledge of the industry and the principles of event planning and gain a broad knowledge and understanding of the business sector.

Course content

The programme delivers the underpinning knowledge and enables you to develop practical skills in event planning and business. It also promotes skills in team working, communication, planning and organisation and time management. You will also undertake English and maths as necessary.

This course is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to work successfully in the events planning and business and commercial sector and/or to progress onto a Level 3 course. You will study a range of event planning and business units including:

  • Planning an event
  • Event review and evaluation
  • Enterprise
  • Marketing
  • Visual merchandising
  • Human Resource planning at events
  • Communication and Customer Service at events

Level 2 Event Planning course specifications

Level 2 Extended Certificate in Business

Assessment is through a combination of internal and external methods. Two units are assessed as external assessment, all other units are assessed through a range of techniques including course work, case studies and practical projects including presentations and observations.

You will need to provide your own writing material, paper and folder. You will also need a storage device (USB) to save computerised work.

The course will prepare you for progression into further study at Level 3 or into an apprenticeship or employment.

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

19+ Students

Aged 19 or over and thinking about further education?

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths  we can help you do that too.

Need a higher level maths qualification? We offer a Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths).
