Fashion and Textiles (Apparel) Level 3 Apprenticeship

Start Date / Duration

This programme has various start dates throughout the year and will take a minimum of 12 months to complete.

Entry requirements

  • Learners will need to be at least 16 years of age
  • It is desirable that you have English and maths at grade C/4 or above but this is not essential as Functional Skills is delivered as part of the apprenticeship programme
  • You need to be employed within the fashion industry or have an employer in this area willing to take you on as an apprentice

You will achieve

You will achieve a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Manufacturing Textile Products and a Level 3 Diploma in Textile Design & Manufacture or Level 3 Diploma in Apparel, Footwear or Leather Production

Course overview

The fashion and textiles sector covers the supply chain from the processing of raw materials to product manufacture, to wholesale and trading activities and after-sales servicing of products.
This apprenticeship trains you in technical, practical skills and you’ll specialise in one of the below:

  • Apparel
  • Textiles
  • Footwear
  • Leather goods
  • Saddlery

Course content

You will study all of the units listed below which relate to your job role. Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Manufacturing Textile Products. Mandatory Units:

  • Health, Safety and Security at work
  • Maintaining the work area for manufacturing sewn products
  • Maintain the quality of production
  • Plus a selection of optional units

Level 3 Diploma in Textile Design & Manufacture or Apparel, Footwear or Leather Production

Mandatory Units:

  • Managing Health and Safety and Employment Rights and Responsibilities within the Apparel
  • Footwear or Leather Industry
  • Managing Quality Standards within Apparel, Footwear or Leather Production
  • Managing Own Working
  • Relationships within the Apparel, Footwear or Leather Production Industry
  • Manufacturing Techniques within Apparel Production
  • Materials Used in the Manufacture of Apparel

Selection of Optional Units:

  • Pattern technology
  • Manual lay planning
  • Constructing basic blocks for disproportionate figures and children’s wear
  • Managing fashion product development
  • Quality testing materials in the fashion industry
  • Relating fabrics to style and planning lays
  • Introduction to footwear

You will also study:

  • Employment, Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Booklet
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT (if required)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments. You will be assessed both in College and in your place of work

You will need a folder, plastic wallets, dividers and a USB device.

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths  we can help you do that too.
