Start Date / Duration

This course has various start times throughout the year and will take 12 to 18 months to complete.

Entry requirements
  • Learners will need to be at least 16 years of age, must hold three GCSEs at grade A*-C plus GCSE English and GCSE maths at grade 4 or above and must hold a Level 2 in Healthcare Support Services.
  • You need to be employed within a healthcare setting or have an employer in this area willing to take you on as an apprentice.

CACHE Level 3 Certificate In Healthcare Support Services Advanced Apprenticeship.

Course overview

Healthcare Support Services play a vital part in the smooth running of healthcare services. Individuals undertaking this framework may have a wide range of job roles e.g. porter, housekeeper/housekeeping assistant, catering manager/assistant, medical records supervisor/clerk, estate manager/worker.

Course content

You will study mandatory units and choose from optional units until you reach a minimum of 54 credits. You will also study:

  • CACHE Level 3 in Healthcare Support Services Advanced.
  • CACHE Level 3 Award in Employment and Personal Learning Skills in Health (EPLS) Booklet
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths.

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments. You will be assessed both in College and in your place of work.

What equipment will I need?

You will be required to provide paper, writing materials, A4 ring binder file, extra wide dividers and clear plastic wallets.

Where will I study?

You will study within the workplace and may have to attend classes at Barnsley College’s Sci-Tech Centre, Falcon Street, Barnsley, S70 2EY.

What can I do next?

Upon completion you could progress onto a Level 4 or qualifications related your your job role.

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

English and Maths

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths or a higher level maths qualification we can help you do that too.
