ICT/IT Functional Skills Levels 1 and 2 Part-time

Start Date / Duration

The course will start on 25 January and run on Mondays 9.30am-12.30pm The course will run for approximately 10 weeks. Attendance will be online.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification, however for Level 2, an ICT qualification to Level 1 or equivalent is desirable. You will take an online assessment to determine the suitable level you will start at.

You will achieve

Functional Skills ICT Level 1 or 2.

Course overview

This qualification is suitable for individuals seeking personal and professional development in ICT. The course helps candidates develop their ICT skills and gain a recognised qualification equivalent to a grade C or 4 at GCSE.

Course content

Functional Skills qualifications are intended to support learners as they seek to improve their ICT skills.

Achieving these qualifications should increase candidates’ confidence and motivation, and the skills they gain will be valuable in the workplace or in any further learning.

The following skill standards will be studied;

  • Plan solutions to complex tasks by analysing the necessary stages
  • Select, interact with and use ICT systems safely and securely for a complex task in non-routine and unfamiliar contexts
  • Manage information storage to enable efficient retrieval
  • Use appropriate search techniques to locate and select relevant information
  • Select information from a variety of sources to meet requirements of a complex task
  • Enter, develop and refine information using appropriate software to meet requirements of a complex task
  • Use appropriate software to meet requirements of a complex data handling task
  • Use communications software to meet requirements of a complex task
  • Combine and present information in ways that are fit for purpose and audience
  • Evaluate own use of ICT tools


Final assessment is by one exam, set in college, in exam conditions.

All equipment will be provided.

Learners can continue to develop their ICT skills by progressing onto a specialised IT course, or continue onto a business course.
