ICT/IT Functional Skills Level 1 Part-time

Start Date / Duration

This course runs on Tuesdays, 5.30pm -7.30pm or Fridays 9.30am-12.30pm. the course will start again from September 2020. This course will run for approximately 6-10 weeks. You will attend classes and workshops.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification, however an interest in developing your ICT skills is desirable.

Course overview

This qualification is suitable for individuals seeking personal and professional development in ICT/IT. The course helps candidates develop their ICT skills and gain a recognised qualification equivalent to a grade D or 3 at GCSE. You’ll develop your ICT skills and learn how to use them in real-life situations.

Course content

The following skill sets will be studied;

  • Interact with and use ICT systems to meet requirements of a straightforward task in a familiar context
  • Manage information storage
  • Follow and demonstrate understanding of the need for safety and security practices
  • Use search techniques to locate and select relevant information
  • Select information from a variety of ICT sources for a straightforward task
  • Enter, develop and refine information using appropriate software to meet requirements of straightforward tasks
  • Use appropriate software to meet requirements of straightforward data-handling task
  • Use communications software to meet requirements of a straightforward task
  • Combine information within a publication for a familiar audience and purpose
  • Evaluate own use of ICT tools


At the end of the course learners will complete an online/paper-based ICT test.

All you need is access to a computer and an internet connection.

Learners can continue to develop their ICT skills by progressing onto Functional Skills ICT Level 2.
