Information Technology (Digital Technician) Level 3 Full-Time

The course runs for two years beginning in September. You will study over four or five days with lessons between 9.00am and 5.00pm.

Entry requirements

  • Five GCSEs at grades 4/C or above, including English Language and maths.
  • Other relelvant qualifications or experience will also be considered.

You will achieve

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Information Technology.

 

Course overview

This course is suitable if you are seeking a career within the IT industry or progress onto further study. This course allows you to learn about different technologies and the types of IT. It will give you an overview of how IT and Computing Systems can be merged and work together to produce benefits for companies and individuals.

Suited to people who want a career in creative IT this course will help you towards a career as a computer technician, in programming, games design or website development and maintenance

If you want to learn both coding and creative skills in real-life scenarios, from hardware programming to graphic design, this is the course for you.

Course content

The Extended Diploma consists of variety of units completed over two years and includes a wide range of IT topics. Units are designed to give you an insight into the varied careers in computing and IT, helping you to identify areas of interest and your future specialism.

The learning programme blends technical and academic skills that are valued by Higher Education (HE) institutions and the workplace. You will take part in coursework, online learning, presentations, demonstrations and practical work.

Your programme will include tutorials, trips, visits and enrichment activities.

 

 

The course offers a combination of assessment styles that include assignments set and marked by teachers which may include written work, observed practical tasks and projects.

External assessment includes written exams marked by the awarding body. The range of assessments means that you can demonstrate your achievement when supporting HE applications or to a potential employer.

You will need your own:

  • USB memory stick and Headphones
  • Not essential but you can bring and use your Android/Windows tablet or IPad
  • Having access to a computer at home would be useful, however access to computers is available outside lessons in our learning curve

Having a BTEC Level 3 Qualification in IT can open up a world of opportunities in both university choices and career options. This course is ideal if you wish to progress onto HE within an IT related area such as Digital Technology, Creative Technology and Business Information Systems.

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

19+ Students

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and Maths we can help you do that too.
