Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and Maths.
Where applicants do not meet the entry requirements, the tutor may use their discretion based on a good personal reference and/or successful interview.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in IT (Networking and System Support)

Course overview

Prepare a new generation of IT managers and shape how people live and work in the future. This course will show you how to create systems and manage information, big data and business analytics. You will also aim to understand how networking fits in to the wider IT industry, work with servers, datacentres and the cloud and the know-how and practical skills to become a creative and resourceful information system and networking professional. Using industry-standard and open-source network management solutions, you will also be able to apply techniques used in networks, get hands on with our industry-standard network laboratories and lay strong foundations for a successful career in Computing.

The course is structured into specialist pathways so that learners choose a route that relates to a career direction. This pathways are, Networking and Systems Support includes additional mandatory units that focus on computer networks and IT technical support

The units are assessed using various assignments and continually assessed. There are no external examinations.

You will require a USB Flash Drive of 8gb along with a folder and paper, pens and pencil. Access to a computer with Internet connection is also required but is available in all classes and in the Learning Curve at College.

Upon completion, you could progress onto further qualifications including the BTEC First Extended Certificate in Information and Creative Technology or an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Computing. Alternatively, you could train to be a Technician.

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

19+ Students

Aged 19 or over and thinking about further education?

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and Maths we can help you do that too.

Need a higher level Maths qualification? We offer a Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths).
