Entry requirements

  • 60 UCAS points from one of the following:
  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism (Grade: Merit, Pass, Pass).
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism (Grade: Merit, Merit).
  • BTEC Level 3 90-Credit Diploma in Travel and Tourism (Grade: Distinction, Merit).
  • A/AS Level profile which shows a strong performance in relevant subjects.
  • Another related Level 3 qualification.
    Plus
  • GCSE grades A* to C including English Language and maths or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths
  • A minimum of one year related work experience (paid or unpaid) or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in the work sector will also be considered.
  • Students will take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme and a good personal reference will be required.

Course overview

This course is ideal for individuals who are working in the travel and tourism industry and wish to progress into management or gain recognition for their existing knowledge and experience. The world of travel and tourism is a dynamic and challenging industry to work in and offers a wide variety of employment opportunities at both supervisory and managerial level in sectors associated with transport, tour operations and visitor attractions.

Course content

This course consists of 120 credits and caters for students who are interested in achieving a Higher Education qualification and pursuing a career in the travel and tourism sector.

  • Finance and Funding in the Travel and Tourism Sector

Specialist units:

  • Contemporary Issues in Travel and Tourism
  • Tour Operations Management
  • Marketing in Travel and Tourism
  • Visitor Attraction Management
  • Preparing for Research in Travel and Tourism
  • Work Based Experience

There are no formal exams on the BTEC Higher National Certificate course. Most modules will be assessed by a mixture of coursework and end of module tests. Some practical modules are assessed on 100% coursework. Assessment methods are assignment-based and may include practical projects including presentations, group activities, written reports or research projects.

You will need to provide your own writing material, paper and folder. You will also need a storage device (USB) to save computerised work.

This qualification may enable you to progress to a HND or top up degree in a related subject area, undertake an Apprenticeship or seek employment/progression in the Travel and Tourism profession.

How much does the course cost?

Course fees: £2,995 per year.

Extra information

As a Higher Education student living in England you may be eligible for the non-means tested Tuition Fee Loan from the Government. For further details go to: www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

A Maintenance Loan of up to £6,904 per year will be available to eligible students living with parents or up to £8,200 per year to those living away from home. EU Students cannot apply.

Students with children or dependant adults may qualify for a Childcare Grant or Adult Dependants’ Grant. Students can apply for these at the same time as applying for a Maintenance Loan.

Remember: Eligible students will not have to pay tuition fees in advance and can apply for the Maintenance Loan before they start the course.
