Start Date / Duration

Apprenticeships can start at any time. This programme will take a minimum of 15 months to complete.

Entry requirements
  • You will need to be at least 16 years of age
  • You must hold two GCSEs at grade A*-D, including GCSE English at grade 3 or above
  • You need to be employed within an IT setting
  • You will need to find an employer to employ you as an apprentice. Please see our Apprenticeship vacancies.

Course overview

Our IT Software, Web and Telecoms Professionals Apprenticeships provides you with the knowledge and skills within telecoms and IT.

Course content

You will study units from the list below relevant to your job role. You will also study:
• Level 2 Diploma in ICT Professional Competence
• Level 2 Award in IT Systems and Principles
• Employment, Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Booklet
• Level 1 Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT
• Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Units
• Health and Safety in ICT
• Develop own effectiveness and professionalism
• Customer care in ICT
• Software installation and upgrade
• ICT System Operation
• Working with ICT hardware and equipment
• System management
• Technical advice and guidance

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by your assessor using a report based evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments. You will be assessed both in College and in your place of work.

What equipment will I need?

You will be required to provide a USB stick.

Where will I study?

You will study within the workplace and attend classes at Barnsley College Old Mill Lane Campus, Church Street, Barnsley, S70 2AX.

What can I do next?

Upon completion you could progress onto the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship  or apply for job roles including:
• IT Analyst
• IT Technician

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

English and Maths

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths or a higher level maths qualification we can help you do that too.
