There are various start dates throughout the year. This course will run for 11 weeks.

Entry requirements

Participants will normally be either practising or aspiring middle managers who have the support from their direct line manager. Whilst there are no formal educational requirements a good standard of literacy and numeracy is essential (GCSE maths and English A to C grade are desirable). The ideal candidate will have middle management experience and a Level 3 or Level 4 Management qualification.

Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management.

Course overview

We offer courses awarded by either CMI (Chartered Management Institute) or ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management)

This professional qualification is ideal if you are currently working in a supervisory or middle managerial role and are looking to progress into senior management and raise your profile in your organisation.

You will develop your ability to lead, motivate and inspire people and use core management techniques to achieve results and facilitate innovation and change.

This blended learning course offers a combination of online learning and study days allowing for home study with regular tutorial support and college-based lectures on key topics.

Course content

You will be required to attend classes for six hours per week and attend individual tutorial sessions to support your learning.

You will participate in lectures, group discussion, assessment, and team exercises. You will be provided with resources through the virtual learning environment to support your studies, but will also be expected to take notes.

This qualification has a minimum credit value of 13 and will be made up from a combination from the following units:

  • Understanding the management role to improve management performance (4 credits)
  • Leading innovation and change (5 credits)
  • Managing stress and conflict in the workplace (3 credits)
  • Developing and leading teams to achieve organisational goals and objectives (4 credits)
  • Making professional presentations (2 credits)
  • Managing remote workers (5 credits)
  • Becoming an effective leader (5 credits)
  • Partnership working (4 credits)
  • Assessing your own leadership capabilities and performance (6 credits)



Units are assessed via several methods, work based assignments, presentations, reflective reviews, written reports and knowledge reviews.

You will be required to provide paper, writing materials, A4 ring binder file, extra wide dividers and clear plastic wallets.
