Entry requirements
  • You must have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and is subject to commissioning by your local authority
  • This course is aimed at students aged between 16 and 24
  • A successful interview and taster sessions
You will achieve

Qualifications achieved will depend on the your aims and aspirations, ranging from Entry Level 1 to Level 1. There is a particular emphasis on re-engagement and participation involving small group work in a supported environment to develop confidence, self-esteem and personal values.

Course overview

The Learning for Living and Work department supports students with a learning disability or difficulty, to prepare them for adulthood such as  independent living or the world of work.

Course content

You will study areas in your individual learning plan. These may include the following:

  • Employability skills
  • Personal and social development
  • Functional skills in numeracy, literacy and ICT

 Assessment is continuous throughout the course.

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.
