Start Date / Duration

This course starts in January 2025 and will take two years to complete. Classes will be held 5.00pm - 8.00pm on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • To hold either an existing Construction Level 3 qualification, such as a BTEC or T Level; an Access to Construction qualification; or a Level 3 qualification in a related industry
  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above
  • Prior experience of working in the Construction industry would be beneficial

Course overview

This course will cover the latest construction methods and give you relevant practical and theoretical skills. You will work on the latest technology and software being used in the industry.

You will study in our state-of-the-art purpose-built Construction Centre and be taught by industry experts.

This HTQ provides the opportunity to gain the proper training, knowledge and skills to be successful in the workplace. Visit the HTQ page for further information.

This course is delivered as part of the South Yorkshire Institute of Technology (SYIoT).

Course content

The course content includes:

  • Construction design projects (set by Pearson and based on live working projects).
  • The construction environment, considering all environmental factors with a focus on sustainability aspects.
  • Principles of off-site manufacture.
  • The potential of Modern methods of construction to transform the industry.
  • Impact on cost control and the environment and address the housing shortages.
  • Building information modelling (BIM).
  • Digital applications for BIM and construction information.
  • Principles of alternative energy.
  • Tender and procurement.

This course will cost £2,995 per year.

As a Higher Education student living in England you may be eligible for the non-means tested Tuition Fee Loan from the Government and a Maintenance Loan.

Students with children or dependant adults may qualify for a Childcare Grant or Adult Dependants’ Grant. Students can apply for these at the same time as applying for a Maintenance Loan.

Remember: Eligible students will not have to pay tuition fees in advance and can apply for the Maintenance Loan before they start the course.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which can be added to your study programme.

If you’re aged 19 or above and don’t hold a a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
