Course overview

As a motorsport engineer you will design, build and test racing cars and bikes in all racing divisions. This can include single-seater racing, like Formula One, and bike racing, such as MotoGP. If you have excellent practical skills, a keen interest in motor racing  and want to work at the forefront of engineering technology this could be the perfect career for you. You will need to be a good problem solver and be able to analyse and interpret data.

Course content

  • Motorsport Health and Safety and MSA and FIA event regulations
  • Routine maintenance of Motorsport Vehicles within the workshop and during competition
  • Remove and replace engine, chassis and electrical units on Motorsport Vehicle
  • Skills in materials, fabrication, measuring equipment and specialist motorsport tools
  • Maths, electronics and science

You will be formally assessed throughout the course.

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

19+ Students

Aged 19 or over and thinking about further education?

English and Maths

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.
