Nail Services Level 2 Apprenticeship

Start Date / Duration

Apprenticeships can start at any time. This programme will take a minimum of 12 months to complete.

Entry requirements
  • Three GCSEs at grade 3/D or above including English at grade 4 or above OR Level 1 NVQ in Beauty Therapy plus Level 1 Functional Skills in English
  • You will need to be at least 16 years of age
  • You will need to find an employer to employ you as an apprentice. Please see our Apprenticeship vacancies.

You will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Nail Services Framework.

Course overview

The Nail Services Apprenticeship enables you to gain practical skills, in manicure, pedicure and nail art. Alongside the practical units you will study anatomy and physiology, reception duties, health and safety and business units, and Functional Skills.

Course content

You will study all the mandatory units listed below.

You will also study:

  • Employment, Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) booklet
  • Level 1 Functional Skills in English and maths
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Mandatory Units

  • Fulfil salon reception duties
  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
  • Promote additional services or products to clients
  • Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety
  • Provide manicure services
  • Provide pedicure services
  • Carry out nail art services
  • Apply and maintain nail enhancements to create a natural finish

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments. You will be assessed both in College and in your place of work.

What equipment will I need?

You will need to purchase a Nail kit. Further information will be provided at induction.

Where will I study?

You will study within the workplace and will have to attend classes one day per week at Barnsley College’s Old Mill Lane Campus, Church Street, Barnsley, S70 2YW.

What can I do next?

Upon completion you could progress onto the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Nail Services or apply for job roles including:

  • Junior Nail Technician
  • Junior Manicurist

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

English and Maths

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths or a higher level maths qualification we can help you do that too.
