Course overview

The Level 1 Introductory Award in Performing Arts and Music provides you with an introduction to music, performing and production arts, encouraging re-engagement with education. You will gain knowledge, skills and understanding to progress to further education or employment within the creative industries.

Course content

The Introductory Award provides a hands on experience of all aspects of performing, from music performance to developing acting and dance skills. You will learn about working in the performing arts industry and what skills are needed to be successful. There will be lots of opportunities to put on performances and showcase your work as both a solo performer and as a member of a group.

 

 

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through performances, practical demonstrations and through course work activities.

What equipment will I need?

You will need to have pens, paper and appropriate clothing for practical activities. If you play an instrument you may need to have access to this as well on occasions.

What can I do next?

Upon successful completion of the Level 1 Introductory Award you can progress onto Level 2 Performing Arts course or Level 2 Music. You can then progress through the levels right up to gaining a degree in Music or Performing Arts at our University Campus.

 

 

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

19+ Students

Aged 19 or over and thinking about further education?

You may be eligible for free or reduced course fees . Please refer to our page ‘paying for your course.’

English and Maths

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths or a higher level maths qualification we can help you do that too.
