Plastering Level 2 Diploma Full-time

Start Date

This course will commence in September 2024 for a 36 week duration. It holds 3 days a week between Monday and Friday.

Entry requirements

This course is for 16-18 year olds.

Successful completion at Diploma Level 1 in Carpentry and Joinery.
GCSE grade 3 in either English or Maths and GCSE grade 2 in either English or Maths.

Course overview

If you want to work in the construction industry and specialise in plastering, then this is the course for you. You will learn the skills and techniques required for the plastering industry. With an established partnership with British gypsum, you will be involved with the very latest in plaster technology, including master classes and instructor days.

The course is designed to support your practical skills development in line with industry practice and while providing you with the knowledge element that is key to the understanding of plastering. You will also develop the attributes required for employment and the workplace to expand your career options throughout the course.


Course content

This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to perform plastering activities with internal plastering systems such as skimming finish plasters. Applying 2 and 3 coat work to a masonry background and fix plasterboards to different background surfaces. Develop skills and with external render systems and internal floor screeding.

The qualification is built up of the following units:
Health and Safety
Principles of building construction
Apply plaster materials to interiors
Fix dry lining and plasterboards to interiors
Laying sand and cement screeds
Applying render materials to external backgrounds

Throughout the study programme your work will be assessed in your understanding and practical skills development for a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade, within each unit of study when you have displayed the required knowledge and skills. Achieving this Diploma means that you have reached the standards expected by the industry.

Basic stationery for the classroom activities.

There are 5 points of PPE required in the workshop at all times. Each student is expected to provide their own safety boots and the department will provide the other 4 pieces:
Hi-viz vest
Hard hat
Eye safety

Construction Centre
Honeywell Lane
S75 1BP

Apprenticeship in Plastering (successful employer support required to take this option).
GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths to progress to a Level 3 T Level in Plastering.

How much does the course cost?

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.
