This course willl run over two days and start in September 2020. The course runs for one year. A typical week consists of 12.5 hours timetabled time, 70% of which is practical and 30% theory.

Entry requirements

This course is for adults who have either completed the Level 2 Diploma in Plastering or who have suitable industry experience and want to upskill or change career paths, which our staff will determine during an interview.

Course overview

This is an advanced level course, which will ensure you are up-to-date with modern plastering techniques and increase your employability prospects.

Our Construction courses are taught by expert tutors, many of whom have professional industry experience and will provide you with the skills required to help you succeed in whatever you decide to do next.

At Barnsley College, all staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.

Course content

Expert tutors use a variety of teaching methods to support you in developing relevant skills and an in-depth understanding of safe working practices

This qualification comprises the following 6 mandatory units;

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
  • Analysing technical information, quantities and communication with others
  • Analysing the construction industry and built environment
  • Apply plaster materials to produce complex internal surfaces
  • Apply render to produce complex external surfaces
  • Prepare and run in-situ moulds

The units you will study vary according to the requirements of current local projects. We will confirm these to you at induction. We use a variety of assessments, with practical skills being assessed in the workshops and your theory knowledge being assessed in class. At the end of each unit you will need to do a multiple choice test.
