Level 1 Certificate

Successful interview with an initial assessment in English and maths at Entry Level 3 or above.

Level 1 Diploma

  • Three GCSEs at grade 2/E or above including English and maths
  • successful interview with an initial assessment in English and maths at Entry Level 3 or above
  • Successful BPEC assessment.

Course overview

Plumbers fit, service and repair hot and cold water systems, and heating systems in homes and businesses. They also work with gas fires and cookers.

If you want a varied job that makes good use of your practical skills and takes you out and about, this could be perfect for you.

You will need to be good at solving problems, have the ability to follow technical plans, and understand the importance of health and safety. You’ll also need good customer care skills.

Course content

Certificate

To achieve the Level 1 Certificate in Construction Skills (Plumbing)  learners must achieve a minimum of 15 credits

  • Introduction to health and safety in construction
  • Removing and refitting water-filled radiators
  • Working with non-manipulative fittings
  • Introduction to the construction industry
  • Bending and jointing copper pipes
  • Connecting pipes and fittings to appliances
  • Constructing combined frames
  • Installing rain water goods
  • Working with low carbon steel pipes and fittings

Diploma

To achieve the Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing Studies (7202-01), learners must achieve 40 credits from the mandatory units.

  • Structure of the construction industry
  • Fundamental safe working practices
  • Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
  • Site preparation for working in the construction industry
  • Above ground drainage
  • Copper pipework
  • Plastic pressure pipework
  • Low carbon steel pipework
  • Installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems
  • Plumbing science

On line unit assessments plus practical assessments.

What equipment will I need?

You will need safety footwear, overalls, writing materials, drawing equipment and paper.

How much does the course cost?

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

19+ Students

Aged 19 or over and thinking about further education?

You may be eligible for free or reduced course fees . Please refer to our page ‘paying for your course.’

English and Maths

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths  we can help you do that too.

Need a higher level maths qualification? We offer a Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths).
