Entry requirements

  • Successful completion of a foundation degree in a relevant Education area or equivalent Level 5 qualification.
  • GCSE grade C/4 or above in English Language (or L2 equivalent is accepted).

  • You will also require a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.

This work-based learning Level 6 Top-Up degree is designed to be undertaken on completion of a foundation degree, or other Level 5 qualification, (this must hold a minimum of 240 UCAS points) in an area related to Early Years care and education and/or the support of children and families. It is ideal preparation for postgraduate training and education and/or a career in leadership in an Early Years setting or children’s centre. You will have the opportunity to develop subject expertise, while engaging with current debate and professional practice. You will be introduced to new concepts and higher order skills such as synthesis and critical evaluation.

Course content

On this course you will study a range of modules which may include the following:

  • Leadership in a Multi-Agency Environment
  • Early Years Professionalisation
  • Evaluating Current Debates and Developments
  • Work-Based Research Proposal
  • Project
  • Theoretical Perspectives: Early Learning and Early Experience.

Assessment is through a mixture of reports, essays, presentations etc.

Once you graduate, you’ll be ready to begin a career as a nursery leader, a family support worker or a social worker (after further training). Alternatively, you can continue your studies at postgraduate level including an MA in Family Support.

Course fees: £5,995 per year.

As a Higher Education student living in England you may be eligible for the non-means tested Tuition Fee Loan from the Government. For further details go to:

A Maintenance Loan of up to £6,904 per year will be available to eligible students living with parents or up to £8,200 per year to those living away from home. EU Students cannot apply.

Students with children or dependant adults may qualify for a Childcare Grant or Adult Dependants’ Grant. Students can apply for these at the same time as applying for a Maintenance Loan.

Remember: Eligible students will not have to pay tuition fees in advance and can apply for the Maintenance Loan before they start the course.
