Programming Introduction Level 1 (Online)

This introduction to programming course covers the principles of programming and text-based coding skills. Learn to design, develop, test, document, and review simple programs. Study at home with regular tutor support, all you need is internet access.

This course will teach you to:

  • Know the basic principles of programming

  • Be able to design a simple computer program in response to a client brief.

  • Be able to develop the program using a graphic-based programming language.

  • Be able to test, document and review the program.

  • This course can be studied in your own time from home – all you need is access to the internet. You will have access to regular support from tutors.

Part-time courses are only available for students who are 19 years old and above. You may not have to pay for this course if you are employed but earn below £23,400 a year, or if you are unemployed and receive Job Seekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit. You will need to provide evidence of your eligibility and this will be required at enrolment.

This course is funded by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and/or West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). You must be living in the South or West Yorkshire regions to qualify for funding.

Course Content

  • There is no requirement for you to have achieved any qualifications or units prior to undertaking this qualification. However, a reasonable standard of computing skills will be required.

  • You must be aged 19 or above to study this course.

You will be assessed using a range of methods such as practical tasks and written coursework within a portfolio of evidence. This portfolio will be used to determine your grade.

You will need access to a laptop and you will use Microsoft Teams to access the course material, with access to regular support from tutors.

Award

Upon completion you could progress on to the Level 2 Award in Digital Development.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 - 19 and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which can be added to your study programme.

If you're aged 19 or above and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
