Start Date / Duration

Apprencticeships can start at any time. This apprenticeship will take two years to complete.

Entry requirements
  • Have GCSEs in maths and English language grade A* to E (or 3-9). We will provide individual advice and guidance for applicants who do not meet these entry requirements.
  • You will need to find an employer to employ you as an apprentice. Please see our Apprenticeship vacancies.

Course overview

This qualification has been specifically developed for learning in the workplace. It has been designed to build your knowledge and understanding of basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing and decorating to provide a qualification for the following job roles:

  • Maintenance Assistant
  • Property Engineer
  • Facilities Assistant
  • Maintenance Engineer
  • Maintenance Manager
  • Maintenance Technician
  • Caretaker
  • Janitor
  • Multi-Skilled Technician
  • Premises Management

Course content

This qualification covers an Indicative content of requirements including carrying out painting and tiling tasks, working with external contractors and providing first and immediate response to fault finding.  You can view specific course details via the link below

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by E-portfolio and workplace observation.

Guided learner hours are delivered during contracted working hours.

What equipment will I need?

All equipment will be provided.

Where will I study?

You will study within the workplace and may have to attend classes at Barnsley College, The Cube, Honeywell Lane, Barnsley, S75 1BP.

What can I do next?

After successful completion you may apply for further Apprenticeships in Site Occupations, Wood Occupations, Trowel Occupations, Plumbing and Heating and Plastering or apply for jobs such as:

  • Bathroom Fitter
  • Property Assistant
  • Joinery Assistant
  • Trainee Carpenter
  • Ground Worker
  • Labourer
  • Plasterer

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

English and Maths

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths or a higher level maths qualification we can help you do that too.
