Property Maintenance Operations Level 2 Diploma

Start Date / Duration

This course starts in September and runs for one year on a full-time basis.

Entry requirements

GCSE English and Maths at Grade 2 or above. It would also be preferable if you have GCSE Science at Grade 2 or above.

You will achieve

Level 2 Maintenance Operations Diploma (City and Guilds), plus CSCS operative card.

Course overview

This course will prepare you to work as a multi-skilled operative to carry out multiple trade repairs in domestic houses. You will spend time in all trade areas learning specific repair and maintenance vocational skills such as basic plumbing, plastering, brickwork, joinery, painting and decorating, roofing and tiling.

This programme also has an apprentice standard and is becoming more in-demand in the social housing and private rental sector.

Course content

You will learn all the practical skills required to carry out common household repairs and general maintenance and all the underpinning knowledge and health and safety requirements needed. Progression routes include studying T Level or apprenticeship course focused on a specific trade.

You will achieve unit accreditation in each individual trade studied and Health and Safety is a core unit. Additionally, you will achieve your CSCS operative card to gain site access.

Once you have completed each trade section, you will undertake a competence-based practical skills test and a knowledge exam.

During the course, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided to be worn at all times in the workshop setting. All tools, equipment and materials will be supplied for practical skill development. In the classroom you will need a pen, a pencil and a file with A4 paper to make notes.

On completion, you can progress on to T Level or apprenticeship course in a specific trade, or self-employment. Find out more about our Construction T Levels and apprenticeships.

Employment opportunities include self-employment, caretaker roles, social housing and facilities management.

How much does the course cost?

You will not pay course fees if you are aged 16 to 18.

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and Maths we can help you do that too.
