Course overview

This qualification allows you to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the Social Media industry.

Effective use of social media is now an established marketing tool, and could help businesses thrive. These qualifications will help you understand the impact of social media on business and help you to use a range of techniques and tools in marketing campaigns

Course content

You will study all the mandatory units listed below and chose from optional units these will depend upon your job role.
Level 3 Diploma in Social Media for Business. Mandatory Units:

  • Principles of social media within a business
  • Principles of keywords and optimisation
  • Social networking management for a business
  • Using collaborative technologies

Examples of Optional Units:

  • Creating and optimising content for the web
  • Use digital and social media in marketing campaigns
  • Principles of social media advertising and promotion
  • Principles of social media for business
  • Web development
  • Principles of mobile social media for business

You will also study:

  • Employment, Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Booklet
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments. You will be assessed both in College and in your place of work.

What equipment will I need?

You will need a folder, plastic wallets, dividers and a USB device.

Where will I study?

You will study within the workplace and may have to attend classes at Barnsley College’s Old Mill Lane Campus, Church Street, Barnsley S70 2YW.

What can I do next?

Upon completion you could progress onto the Level 4 HNC Diploma in Art and Design/ Photography, Higher Apprenticeship in Interactive Design and Development or apply for job roles including:

  • Social Media Assistant
  • Social Media Consultant
  • Social Media Analyst
  • Digital Account Assistant
  • Digital Marketing Assistant

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

English and Maths

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths or a higher level maths qualification we can help you do that too.
