  • You need to be employed within a Health and Social Care, mental health, learning disability, community or day centre setting
  • There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification, however, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 2 qualification

Course overview

This qualification aims to upskill the workforce in stroke care to improve services and meet the projected outcomes of the National Stroke Strategy for England. It also contributes towards the Stroke Specific Education Framework.

This qualification provides the opportunity to further develop knowledge around supporting individuals with stroke. It supports learners to understand:

  • Impact of the effects of stroke on daily living
  • Associated complications for an individual with stroke
  • Changing physical needs of individuals affected by stroke
  • Communication factors affecting individuals following a stroke

Course content

To achieve this qualification, you are required to achieve 26 credits – a minimum of 20 credits must be achieved at Level 3.

17 credits must be from four mandatory units and nine credits (a minimum of two units) from optional units

How will I be assessed?

You must successfully demonstrate your achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the chosen units. The qualification is internally assessed.

All equipment will be provided.

Where will I study?

You will study at your place of work.

What can I do next?

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:

  • Level 3 Certificate for Working in the Health Sector
  • Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support Services
  • Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support
  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care

The objectives of these qualifications are to prepare learners for further training and to support a role in the workplace.
