Supply Chain Management Level 5 Apprenticeship

Start Date / Duration

You can start an Apprenticeship at any point during the year. This programme will take a minimum of 18 months to complete.

Entry requirements
  • Learners will need to be at least 16 years of age and must hold five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including GCSE maths and GCSE English at grade C/4 or above
  • You need to be employed within the Supply Chain sector and are expected be working in a strategic role.
  • You will need to find an employer to employ you as an apprentice. Please see our Apprenticeship vacancies.

Course overview

The supply chain is the movement of goods and services from supplier to customer. It is at the heart of every logistics operation. Supply chain operators play a crucial role in most industries, from clothing and automotive to pharmaceuticals and construction. They move raw materials to the factory for construction or assembly and then on to distribution centres and shops.

Course content

You will study units from the list below relevant to your job role. You will also study:

  • Employment, Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Booklet
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English, maths and IT
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)Units
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, ethical and social requirements in logistics operations
  • Ensure an effective organisational approach to health, safety and security in supply chain management or a logistics operation
  • Plan the workforce in supply chain management or a logistics operation
  • Respond to problems in logistics operations
  • Implement change in supply chain management or a logistics operation
  • Plan change in supply chain management or logistics operation
  • Manage finance in own area of responsibility in supply chain management or logistics operation
  • Minimise the environmental impact of logistics operations
  • Map the logistics environment in which own organisation operates
  • Build own organisation’s understanding of its markets and customers in supply chain management or logistics operation
  • Provide leadership in supply chain management or a logistics operation
  • Develop productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders in supply chain management or a logistics operation
  • Help team members address problems affecting their performance in logistics operations
  • Manage own professional development in logistics operation
  • Establish strategic relationships within the supply chain

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments. You will be assessed in your place of work.

What equipment will I need?

All equipment will be provided. At the start of your apprenticeship, you will need a folder which will become your portfolio. You will use this portfolio to evidence your skills and experience.

Where will I study?

You will study within the workplace. You may have to attend classes at Barnsley College’s Queens Court Business Centre, Regent Street, Barnsley, S70 2EG.

What can I do next?

Upon completion you could progress onto:

  • Foundation Degree in Logistics, Transport Planning, Logistics Operations and Administration
  • Undergraduate Higher Education degrees in subjects such as Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Management and Business

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

English and Maths

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths or a higher level maths qualification we can help you do that too.
