Start Date / Duration

The course will run on 29 June 2020. Attendance is 29 June until 6 July and then 7 July-24 July (as and when required by the tutor). You will study 9.30am-4.00pm.

Entry requirements
  • You are expected to hold a Level 3 in your subject specialism although this is not essential
  • It is desirable that you achieve a Level 2 in literacy at initial assessment
  • You must be aged 19 years or over to study for this qualification

You will take part in an enrolment and information session plus an interview prior to being enrolled onto the programme.

You will achieve

The Award in Education and Training Level 3 accredited by Training Qualifications UK.

(This qualification is a replacement for PTLS).

Course overview

Want a teaching qualification but struggling to commit to a ten week course?  Fancy a change of career?  Then why not enrol for Barnsley College’s Fasttrack version of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training and receive a nationally recognised and fully accredited teaching qualification in just three weeks.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is an introduction to teaching that will give an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching sessions and how to assess and give constructive feedback.

Course content

Week 1 and 2: Teaching week (Five days attendance required from 9.30am-4.00pm).

Week 3: Assignment write up week (no attendance in College required).

Week 4: Micro teach and assessment submission week  (attendance is one day required to undertake your micro teach, complete the associated paperwork and hand in a completed portfolio).

This award comprises of the three following units which total 12 credits:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training (3 credits)
  • Understanding and using inclusive approaches in education and training (6 credits)
  • Understanding assessment in education and training (3 credits)

How will I be assessed?

You are required to complete written assignments and a micro-teach to be achieved at Level 3.

The assignments are broken down into smaller assessment tasks, which have an emphasis on creative and ‘hands on’ learning.

What equipment will I need?

You will need to provide your own writing materials, paper and ring binders. A calculator and dictionary are also desirable.

On completion of this programme you may wish to progress on to the Certificate in Education and Training, or the Diploma in Education and Training or Certificate in Education.
