Traffic Office Manager Level 3 Apprenticeship

Start Date / Duration

You can start an Apprenticeship at any point during the year. This programme will take a minimum of 12 months to complete.

Entry requirements
  • Four GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, plus GCSE English gradeC/ 4 or above
  • Learners will need to be at least 16 years of age
  • You will need to find an employer to employ you as an apprentice. Please see our Apprenticeship vacancies.

Course overview

This course is for people who want to pursue a career in planning and organising the transport and movement of goods. Work in a traffic office is focused on the logistics sector and revolves around getting goods to where they need to go via the correct route and by the allotted time.

Course content

You will study units from the list below relevant to your job role. You will also study:

  • Employment, Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Booklet
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)


  • Health and safety and security at work
  • Make an effective contribution to a business in logistics sector
  • Contribute to the provision of customer service in logistics operation
  • Identify suitable collection or delivery points
  • Release vehicles for daily tasks
  • Monitor vehicle movements
  • Post journey reports and checks
  • Routing and scheduling of loads
  • Develop productive working relationships with colleagues in logistics operation
  • Manage the traffic office
  • Inducting new colleagues in to the logistics operation
  • Produce costing for freight transport
  • International road transport operations
  • Help team members address problems affecting their performance in logistics operations
  • Recruit select and keep colleagues in logistics operation
  • Build and manage team in logistics operation

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments. You will be assessed in your place of work.

What equipment will I need?

All equipment will be provided. At the start of your apprenticeship, you will be given a portfolio which provides you with information about the company you will be working for. You will use this portfolio to evidence your skills and experience.

Where will I study?

You will study within the workplace.

What can I do next?

Upon completion you could progress onto the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Warehousing and Storage or apply for job roles including:

  • Warehouse Operative

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

English and Maths

Having good English and maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and maths or a higher level maths qualification we can help you do that too.
