I hope you are keeping safe and well during these challenging times.
Over the past few weeks staff have been working closely with our students to identify anyone from years 10 and 12 who would benefit from a face to face meeting at College. Today, Monday 15 June 2020, I am delighted to say, in line with the government guidelines, we have started on this journey and held a number of appointments throughout the day. It was a pleasure to be back in the College and witness first-hand the amazing work that our staff had undertaken.
The safety measures we have in place, along with the pre-booking service, have worked extremely well, ensuring that all staff and students were able to have a successful visit to the College. All other College sites and outlets remain closed, and the delivery of teaching and learning, support and pastoral services will continue to be delivered online.
As we are fast approaching the end of the summer term, there will undoubtedly be lots of questions. Staff are working closely with students about their next steps, whether that be progression within the College, apprenticeships, Higher Education or employment. This is an extremely important time, please be assured that we will continue to support you in whatever your future plans hold.
If you are a school leaver; are considering a change in career; or simply want to learn a new skill we are here to support you too. It’s still not too late to apply. Please visit the Courses page www.barnsley.ac.uk/courses to see what we offer or contact our Information Team by emailing info@barnsley.ac.uk
Many of our applicants have already taken part in our virtual taster sessions, with on-line open events and a bespoke enrolment service to follow. As with all other education providers we recognise the way in which we deliver our provision will be different to what it was at the start of last academic year. However, the way we adapted to online delivery during lockdown, has given us a really good head start. In line with government guidelines for class sizes and social distancing measures, ‘blended learning’ will be the way to go, with a mixture of online delivery and practical, on-site taught sessions. We will keep you informed of these arrangements as we move forward through the next phase.
Our key priority as always is the safety and well-being of all students and staff. May I take this opportunity to thank you once again for your continued support throughout this time.
Yours sincerely
Yiannis Koursis
Principal and CEO
