Free ICT courses launched

Barnsley College has launched two new free Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Functional Skills courses.

Available at Level 1 and Level 2, the Functional Skills courses will support students to improve their ICT skills and their employment prospects by being more competent and confident with ICT. These courses will help people to learn how to use ICT systems; find and select information; and present and communicate information. Upon course completion, students can progress onto a higher level course at the College.

The 10-week courses are completely free and places are available to reserve now.

Angela Kerley, Head of Business, Warehousing and Logistics at Barnsley College, said: “These courses are a great way for people to feel more confident with ICT and gain a recognised qualification.”

The introduction of the new ICT Functional Skills courses adds to the College’s existing English and maths Functional Skills provision. Courses are available from Entry Level to Level 2 and are suitable for anyone aged 19 and over. Students will develop essential skills and knowledge in a range of topics including spelling, form filling, note writing, interpreting numbers and dealing with money.

These courses will help people to operate confidently in everyday life and at work whilst gaining confidence in their reading, writing, speaking and numeracy skills.
