Fundraising students donate to local residential home

Barnsley College students prepare the Christmas shoeboxes.

Barnsley College students have raised funds and donated Christmas shoeboxes to Galtee More Residential Home.

Business and AAT Accountancy students raised over £500 by completing a sponsored walk earlier in the year and by selling products at the My Markets event within the College. They used this money to purchase suitable items that were wrapped and made into 24 Christmas shoeboxes which were donated to the residents at the nursing home.

The project was designed as part of their course and it gave students the opportunity to develop their problem solving skills and work to a budget.

The project helped me to improve my team building and communication skills.

Business student Megan Gallagher, 16, of Wombwell, said: “I enjoyed buying the products and making the shoeboxes. The project helped me to improve my team building and communication skills.”

Carole Gooder, Manager of Galtee More Residential Home added: “All of the staff including Dr G H Khan and myself are absolutely over the moon with the lovely gifts that have been donated for our residents.

“We appreciate all of the fundraising and the hard work the students have put into this so they can buy the gifts and they are very well received. I would like to pass on our thanks from everyone at Galtee More.”
