GCSE English and Maths Exams Summer 2022

Due to concerns after the disruption students have experienced in the past two years, we have put plans in place for exams and assessments in case of any further disruption due to the pandemic.

This means that you can concentrate on what really matters– studying and revising as you prepare to get the best results you can.

The Government has set out a full explanation of their plans here. This is also on our website, so please read the ‘Letter to Students’, which explains the process in detail, and please ask your parents/carer to do the same.

The summer exams are scheduled as follows:

GCSE English GCSE Maths
·         Wednesday 18 May 2022 (9.00am) ·         Friday 20 May 2022 (9.00am)
·         Friday 10 June 2022 (9.00am) ·         Tuesday 7 June 2022 (9.00am)
·         Monday 13 June 2022 (9.00am)

However, below are the arrangements that Barnsley College has put in place to make exams and assessments as fair as possible and to plan for any further disruptions.

If there are no exams in summer 2022, we will use the formally assessed work as part of the process to grade our GCSE students.

– Assessments have already started in English and maths (two have taken place for both English and Maths in December and February)

– More assessments have been planned throughout the remainder of the academic year

– All students will have the opportunity to take mock exams during week commencing Monday 4 April. The results of these will form a significant part of grading decisions, therefore attendance is mandatory.

The mock exams are scheduled as follows:

GCSE English GCSE Maths
  • Tuesday 5 April 2022 (9.00am)
  • Tuesday 5 April 2022 (Afternoon, time TBC)
  • Wednesday 6 April 2022 (9.00am)
  • Wednesday 6 April 2022 (Afternoon, time TBC)
  • Thursday 7 April 2022 (9.00am)

– Students who miss assessments will have the opportunity to resit them during College holidays (i.e. Easter and/or May half term). Further details on where your exams will be sent to you via text at a later date.

An extra note about the mock exams in April:

– We are aware that many FT students have sat very few exams in formal conditions. These mocks will run under exam conditions, and will give students invaluable experience ready for their GCSE exams in May and June.

We will monitor guidance from the government and will keep you informed of any changes through the College email and website.
