Health students raise over £900 for Dementia UK

Six Health and Social Care students have raised £906 in ‘Connect Badge’ challenge for Dementia charity.

In just one month, the Level 3 Health and Social Care students raised an impressive £906 for Dementia UK

The group took on the challenge as part of the Creative Connect Badge – an initiative that encourages students to develop and showcase key employability skills such as leadership, self-management, and teamwork.

Taking full ownership of the project, the students chose to support Dementia UK and independently organised a charity gig night during the half-term break. The event featured performances by local College bands and was planned entirely outside of College hours.

To boost donations, the group also promoted their JustGiving page via their social media channels.

Their dedication and creativity paid off – not only did they raise the highest amount of money among all participating groups, but they also demonstrated standout skills in teamwork, communication, leadership, entrepreneurial thinking, and motivation.

Grace Goddard, who chose to raise money for Dementia UK, said: “I watch my nan suffer every day, and although I know she won’t get better, I wanted to help in any way I could.

“We didn’t set a goal, so reaching £300 felt amazing—then the support kept growing, and we raised over £900. I felt so grateful and proud. I know my nan would be proud too. It was stressful at times, but I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. I had so much fun, and it’s all thanks to everyone who supported and donated.”

Storm Inglis, Childcare and Health Tutorial Learning Mentor, who oversaw the competition, added: “These girls have always been quiet, but this challenge has shown how resilient they are. They worked under pressure, supported each other, and stepped out of their comfort zones to achieve something truly inspiring.

“We are incredibly proud of their achievements. Their success is a shining example of what young people can accomplish when allowed to lead, create, and give back to their community.”
