Our apprentice Jamie-Leigh Mitchell had cause for celebration when she was declared a winner at the North Midlands and South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards.
Jamie-Leigh, of Barnsbridge Grove, Barnsley, was victorious in the Barnsley Apprentice of the Year Award at the ceremony, which took place at the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield.
The 25-year-old scooped the award for her achievements as an Apprentice Teaching Assistant at Greenacre School, assisting pupils with special educational needs and helping them to overcome barriers which they may face with their learning due to their individual needs.
Jamie-Leigh’s apprenticeship has been so successful that she will take up a full-time role at the school on completion of her studies.
Jamie-Leigh said: “It doesn’t seem real that I could have won an award on such a large scale. All the great things that have been celebrated about me have come from the apprenticeship and, most importantly, Greenacre School.
“Every step of my journey has been supported by my assessor and the amazing Greenacre staff. They put so much in place to push me to my full potential and maximise my skills on the apprenticeship. I have come on leaps and bounds since shadowing the remarkable staff.
“I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone, it is a fantastic opportunity to push yourself into the industry you want to be in whilst creating contacts and further opportunities for yourself along the way. The experience you will pick up by shadowing great practice whilst working towards a qualification is so valuable for your future.”
