We welcomed The Worshipful the Mayor of Barnsley, Councillor Jeff Ennis, to cut the ribbon marking the official opening of The Job Shop at the Old Mill Lane campus.
Bringing together a range of support services for students and members of the public, The Job Shop will provide a one-stop shop offering careers information, advice and guidance working closely with the National Careers Service and National Apprenticeship Service.
As well as providing information about courses, volunteering opportunities and job hunting, workshops and drop-in sessions will also be held to help with applications to university, CV writing, interview skills and how to start your own business.
The opening event was attended by representatives from local businesses, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, partner agencies and College staff. The guests enjoyed canapés made and served by our Catering and Hospitality students and a talk by Ken Perritt, Account Director at XPO Logistics. Ken spoke of the importance of preparing young people for work and the long-standing relationship XPO Logistics has with the College through a very successful apprenticeship scheme.
Jess Leech, Assistant Principal – Students, said: “The Job Shop offers a wide range of really important services to both our students and the wider public and we are thrilled that it is now officially open. We are working with some excellent partners to ensure we deliver the best possible provision and look forward to growing the facility over the coming weeks and months. It was great to see so many people come to celebrate the opening of the Job Shop and we would like to thank the Mayor, Councillor Jeff Ennis, for cutting the ribbon.”
The Job Shop, located at our Old Mill Lane campus, is open Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5.00pm and Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm.
