Community Artist Becky Newbould has been working with our Learning for Living and Work students to produce Tour de Yorkshire themed bunting to decorate the Old Mill Lane campus as part of the celebrations in the lead up to the race leaving Barnsley on 4 May.
You may have noticed our iconic red College building at the top of Old Mill Lane is adorned with the giant blue and yellow bike themed bunting with each unique flag being individually designed by students.
Becky who is employed by the College through the Civic, has been working with the students, all who have a range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities, on various artistic projects to enable them to explore their creative capabilities through art, music and drama.
“I’m really proud of the hard work and creativity they’ve shown.”
Becky said: “All the students have been so enthusiastic and excited about making the flags as they know they will be seen by so many people as they come along to watch the bike race go past on 4 May. They’ve really thrown themselves into the project and come up with some amazing ideas to make each flag different. I’m really proud of the hard work and creativity they’ve shown.”
Barnsley Sixth Form College and The Open Kitchen, Cookie Crumbs and Crumbs Café at the Old Mill Lane campus will all be open on the day of the race for members of the public to purchase refreshments and light snacks.
