Barnsley College recently presented Barnsley Hospice and Barnsley Hospital’s Tiny Heart appeal with donations amounting to £90.
The money was raised when students who were completing the Lone Parents Work Preparation course organised the event as part of their course.
The eight week employability skills course is specially tailored to fit around childcare and offers students an opportunity to do essential work experience.
Andrea Babington, one of the organisers of the coffee morning said: “It was great to be involved in the planning and hosting of the event, with a group of people who had been touched by these charities at some points in their lives.”
Sarah Hattersley, Community Fundraiser at Barnsley Hospice said: “Everyone at Barnsley Hospice is very grateful to Barnsley College and their students for their support. We rely on the generosity of the public to help fund specialist compassionate care for patients and their families who have life limiting illnesses. Events like this not only give students skills and experience they can use in the future, but also help to make a difference to people in Barnsley. ”
Steve Wragg, Chairman of Barnsley Hospital added: “It’s fantastic that the students thought of us when they decided to raise funds for charity. It’s an incredibly good use of charitable funds to help vulnerable children get a great start in life.”
