Empowering futures by navigating post College resources

Our Learning for Living and Work (LfLW) department recently hosted a Transition Day for Project Search students, as well as other LfLW students set to leave College this year. A variety of support services, from Mencap Barnsley to Autism Plus, were present to provide invaluable information on job search support and further skills acquisition.
Rosie Probyn, a Specialist Employment Coach from Autism Plus, said: “Here at Autism Plus, we aim to raise awareness of the support available and help individuals on their journey to employment. It has been thoroughly rewarding to engage with students who are eager to enter the workforce.”
Sally Wilkes, from Shaw Trust, added: “Meeting the students and their parents has been incredibly beneficial. We have had the opportunity to discuss the support we can offer post College, including assistance with CVs and contacting employers.”
Liam Brayson, a Project Search student currently in his third rotation at Barnsley Hospital, expressed his enthusiasm for the session. He said: “This event is amazing. The knowledge we are gaining will benefit us after the internship. I am grateful for this experience.”
Helen Mangham, Work Skills Facilitator at the College, said: “This has been an excellent opportunity for students to learn about their next steps after College. The students had discussions on opportunities ranging from volunteering to paid employment.
“The event was about being supported by other external agencies and organisations so that students can positively progress into their next steps and still receive support.”
