Barnsley College is offering part-time Art, Design and Fashion courses with a recognised qualification which can be studied free of charge by those in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).

Traditionally undertaken for a hobby, students can now study towards a qualification through ten-week modules in Ceramics, Drawing and Painting, Graphic Design, Digital Photography and Jewellery, plus the Great Barnsley Sewing Bee, which enables students to create a simple skirt, shirt or trousers, demonstrating pattern cutting techniques and enhancing sewing machine skills.

Head of Department for Art and Design, Ian Latham, said: “This is a great opportunity to work towards a recognised qualification in a creative subject and will be a fantastic addition to a CV for jobseekers in particular.”

For anyone not in receipt of JSA or ESA, there is a small payment on top of the course fee for those who wish to work towards the qualification.

Find out more about our part-time courses at our open day on Wednesday 15 October between 6.00pm and 8.00pm at the Old Mill Lane Campus.
