Animal Care student Maisie Wright has landed a volunteering opportunity at a horse centre with Everything Is Possible in Våxtorp, Sweden.
Maisie will spend the summer at the Caprifolen horse centre for rehabilitation, which mainly operates for people with disabilities. She will help take care of the horses and the stables’ everyday needs, whilst carrying out weekly horse activities such as vaulting, circus, gymnastic and dance training for young people.
Maise said: “I decided to volunteer with Everything Is Possible when I saw the industry talk with former Barnsley College student Danielle Aspinall, who talked about her time volunteering in a bear refuge in Croatia and it seemed very interesting to me.
“I am most looking forward to meeting new people and getting some volunteering experience as I think this will be good to have on my CV as I want to go into full-time work straight after I finish university. I have gained experience with working with different animals on the College farm and the knowledge and skills I have picked up from my Animal Management course will allow me to flourish in Sweden.
“My advice to any students wanting to volunteer with animals is just go for it because you never know if you are going to like it if you are not there doing it.”
Beverley Jones, Senior Tutorial Team Leader at Barnsley College, added: “I’m so proud that Maisie used her initiative after watching the fabulous industry talk, she has worked really hard on her studies and has a real opportunity to progress in education and the animal care industry.”
