Performing Arts students welcomed former student and actress Louise Atkins into the Electric Theatre for a question and answer session about her experience in the entertainment industry.

Louise studied Performing Arts at Barnsley College in the 1990s and since completing her course has enjoyed a prolific career in film and TV appearing in films and TV dramas including Emmerdale and Coronation Street. Louise took the time to speak with the students about her time as an actress and working in the entertainment industry, providing the students with real life knowledge of what they can expect in their future careers.

“As an industry based course, it’s vital that our students make links with professionals and that they truly reflect the profession.”

Louise said: “I came back to College to deliver this question and answer session to students as I feel it’s important they get a genuine feel for the industry. I have provided a true reflection of the working environment and hope this helps and encourages them with their future career goals.”

Paul Atkins, Performing Arts Lecturer at the College, added: “Events like these are really important as it allows us to keep our students connected to current practices. As an industry based course, it’s vital that our students make links with professionals and that they truly reflect the profession.”

Level 3 Acting student Izzy Lang added: “Louise gave an honest reflection of the industry which is why sessions like these are so helpful. I’ll use the information provided when I’m doing university auditions and taking feedback or rejection in my future acting career.”
