Barnsley College has joined forces with three other leading colleges and universities to launch The Professional Skills Partnership to develop leadership and management qualifications which meet the needs of employers across the region.

The consortium consists of Barnsley College, Bradford College, Leeds Trinity University and the University of Leeds. One of the first collaborative projects the Partnership is working on is with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to deliver leadership and management qualifications at a range of levels, including apprenticeships. It is hoped that this is one of many opportunities for the Partnership to work with local businesses and develop the skills of new and existing staff.

Karen Vella, Head of Organisational Learning at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Apprenticeships have offered us an exciting development opportunity for attracting new recruits and developing our existing staff. We are proud to be working with The Professional Skills Partnership consortia to deliver a wide range of management apprenticeships at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to build leadership capacity and capability to meet the healthcare challenges now and in the future.”

By working in partnership, the four providers will develop supervisors, managers and senior managers through a range of Chartered Management Institute (CMI) accredited programmes available from Level 3 to Level 7 – the equivalent of a Master’s degree.

Yiannis Koursis, Deputy Principal at Barnsley College, said: “It’s fantastic to be involved in The Professional Skills Partnership. This innovative approach to delivery allows us to work with highly regarded training providers to deliver a suite of leadership and management qualifications.

“By working collaboratively we will be able to provide the Trust with the training it requires and a single point of contact who will manage the relationship between all of the training providers who are involved in this large scale training programme.”
