Following the Government’s announcement on 22 February, Barnsley College and Barnsley Sixth Form College are developing plans for a phased reopening of on-site teaching from Monday 8th March.
As throughout this pandemic, our priority is the safety and wellbeing of our students, their families, and our staff, and therefore a phased approach to reopening and mass testing is vital to keeping everyone safe, including the wider community in Barnsley itself.
Further details will be provided on which students are expected back on which dates in due course.
Arrangements for the return of HE students on practical courses, who need to access specialist facilities and equipment, will be communicated accordingly. The Government has announced that the return of other HE students will be reviewed by the end of the Easter holidays based on the latest data.
We will also be continuing to enforce our Covid-safety measures for everyone, including the wearing of face coverings, social distancing, regular hand washing and one-way systems.
Barnsley College has been routinely testing students and staff that have been on-site since January, and the capacity for asymptomatic testing will be expanded in line with the government guidance.
Barnsley College has a large population of students and staff, therefore targeted communication will be provided directly to each group. This will include information about staggered start times, testing arrangements and support available to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
