Our Sports Academy has established a partnership with Barnsley Rugby Union Football Club (RUFC) which will give talented rugby players opportunities at both clubs.

The new agreement could open doors for College students who are looking to get a foothold in rugby. The academy will have the opportunity to utilise Barnsley RUFC’s modern playing and training facilities at Shaw Lane. The Club has three senior pitches and an all-weather 3G training area.

The partnership will enable the College’s Athlete Development Manager Luke Forgione to send talented players from the College to Barnsley RUFC for a trial.

Luke said: “We’re delighted to establish this partnership with Barnsley RUFC, which will provide great opportunities for the College and our prospective students and current students with an interest in rugby. The Club has a great history and is a huge part of the Barnsley community.

“This partnership will help to strengthen the current Barnsley College Rugby Academy which offers coaching, strength and conditioning, physiotherapy and match analysis. As an academy we aim to develop individuals through academic and sporting excellence.”

Chris Peel, General Manager at Shaw Lane, added: “We are hoping to attract more hungry young players who are interested in rugby. The College students and our current rugby players will have the opportunity to play for both teams, enabling us to field more teams and increase the awareness of rugby in the Barnsley community.”
