Students impress at Wigfield Farm Spring Show

Posted: 02/05/2025

Students at our Wigfield Farm campus were at the heart of the action during their annual Spring Show, giving visitors a fun and educational day filled with animal encounters, live demonstrations, and interactive experiences.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for students from our Animal Care, Agriculture, and Horticulture courses to put their skills into practice in a real-world setting.

They confidently stepped into their roles—handling animals, speaking with the public, and proudly showing what they’ve learned as part of their studies.

A standout moment was the animal show ring, where Level 2 and Level 3 Agriculture students led llamas and goats with skill and calmness.

The goats had only been trained to wear halters for three weeks, which made the students' achievement even more impressive.

Elsewhere, Level 1 Land Based students took great pride in showing guinea pigs, while Level 2 Agriculture students demonstrated expert pig handling. Visitors also enjoyed meeting rabbits and poultry, which were presented by Level 2 Animal Care students who shared their knowledge with confidence. Sheep showing brought together Level 3 students from both Agriculture and Animal Care, highlighting excellent teamwork and professionalism.

Horticulture students also played a key role in the day’s success, selling a wide range of plants they had grown themselves. Adding an extra touch of entertainment, Level 2 Horticulture student Adam McNally took to the main arena to show off his dog’s obedience and tricks, delighting the crowd with a fun and well-rehearsed performance.

Peter Wood, Head of Landbased Industries at the College, said: "The Spring Show is always a proud moment for us, and this year’s event was a true celebration of our students’ progress and potential. They worked incredibly hard and showed real confidence in sharing their skills with the public.

“Each year it continues to be a much-loved community event, providing students with valuable experience while bringing people together to celebrate the achievements of young talent in land-based industries.”
