Students take to the catwalk for charity

Fashion students have been hard at work preparing for a fashion show to raise money for Barnsley Hospice.

Our students will take to the stage to present their garments at the Electric Theatre on Wednesday 29 March, alongside Media students who will take control back stage with lights and sounds, and Hair and Beauty students who will make sure the models are prepared and look their best. Tickets are £5 and can be purchased at the Barnsley Hospice Eldon Street shop, Barnsley Hospice reception and at Barnsley College’s fashion department. All money raised will be donated to the charity.

Students have recently visited the Barnsley Hospice warehouse to choose fabrics, colours and find inspiration to create their looks. A selection of garments will be chosen for display in the Barnsley Hospice Eldon Street shop window, which will be available to view at the fashion show.

Max Telford, a second year Fashion student, said: “Working with Barnsley Hospice has been a rewarding experience that has benefited the local community and raised social awareness of what the hospice does.”

Fellow student Katie Hirst, added: “We went to the warehouse and had a range of clothes to choose from, I picked trousers and suit jackets as my theme was architecture so it needed to be structured. I feel proud to have my design in the shop window, and I am really looking forward to the show.”

Barbra Cronin, Retail Manager for Barnsley Hospice, added: “When I was the Volunteer Service Manager at Barnsley Hospice we worked closely with the Barnsley College Fashion department for five years, and I’m excited to be working with them again. I’m looking forward to seeing the students’ work and the start of their careers. I encourage people to buy a ticket, it will be an amazing show.”
