Level 2 Travel and Tourism students from Barnsley College raised £397 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice with a Zumbathon recently.

The students organised the two hour dance and exercise session at the college’s Honeywell Sports Village as part of an assessment to test their maths, English and entrepreneurial skills. The session was run by Zumba coaches Jo Cantle, Helen Eyre and Julie Cotney from Viva Wellness who ensured the students kept moving throughout.

As well as raising funds through sponsorship, the students sold refreshments and held a raffle for the hospice. Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice is based in Sheffield and offers respite care and end of life treatment and care for children and young people with a shortened life expectancy.

Student Abbegayle Howarth Sellars, 19, from Bolton Upon Dearne said: “It is a cause close to my heart and I hoped we would raise around £200, I’m delighted with the amount we raised. I’ve never done Zumba before but it’s really fun.”

Clair Victory, Course Leader in Business and Management, said: “The students really took ownership of the event and just got on with it. The instructors have been brilliant and I’m amazed by the turnout, students from the Level 3 course also joined in and they’ve all really enjoyed it.”
