We have a small number of remaining places available on the Level 5 Healthcare Assistant Practitioner Higher Apprenticeship course and the Foundation Degree in Professional Practice in Health and Social Care course starting in September 2021.

Both two-year courses are validated by Sheffield Hallam University and are perfect for those who wish to pursue or advance a career within the health and social care industry.

For those already employed in an assistant or support worker role in the health, social or community care sector, the Level 5 Healthcare Assistant Practitioner Higher Apprenticeship course allows them to directly develop the skills and learning required by a wide range of assistant practitioners to provide patient care across primary and secondary are settings in nursing and allied health professions.

For those not already in employment, the Foundation Degree in Professional Practice in Health and Social Care course will provide students with a suitable placement in a health, social or community care role which will allow them to develop the necessary skills and competencies, alongside their academic studies, to complete the course.

The Foundation Degree in Professional Practice in Health and Social Care is delivered over two days per week with a wide range of expertise and provides a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to flourish in the sector.

Andrea Price, Course Leader for Health and Social Care Professions, said: “These courses are ideal for anyone who wants a more personal student experience. They equip students with the skills and knowledge required to progress onto a range of health and social care careers including: Adult Nursing; Physiotherapy; Social Work; Diagnostic Radiotherapy; Paramedic Science; and Occupational Therapy.

“The courses are also aimed at staff already working in a health and social care setting who wish to enhance their potential for a promotion or new job roles. Studying a Higher Education course with us provides flexibility for students as they have the option to complete with one or two years of study with us. Students who study with us for one year can then apply to study a range of health and social care courses such as Midwifery and Child Nursing.”

Hannah Johnson, one of our Foundation Degree in Professional Practice in Health and Social Care students, said: “I enjoy learning about all aspects of my course and discussing experiences and opinions with others; we support each other throughout our studies and the tutors are fantastic!

“I’d recommend Barnsley College to others as it is such a friendly and accommodating place to study. The staff go over and above to provide a brilliant environment to learn in.”

We are committed to transforming the lives of students, staff and communities.
