Over 100 pupils from Wellgate Primary School have visited Barnsley College to take part in a dodgeball tournament organised by College students.

The tournament, held at the College’s Sports Academy, introduced the pupils to dodgeball through training and competition. The day was arranged by Level 3 Sport students who have undertaken a UK Dodgeball Certificate Level 1 as part of their course.

Thomas Henshaw, 17, of Silkstone, Barnsley, said: “I really enjoyed organising the dodgeball tournament. It has given me a good insight into officiating and coaching a recognised sport. The tournament was very competitive and provided me with experience and skills I can use in the future.”

Chris Hawley, PE co-ordinator at Wellgate Primary School, added: “The College building and the facilities were very impressive. We were warmly welcomed, the children had a great day and they really enjoyed the dodgeball tournament.”
