We are proud to be participating in Love Our Colleges Week 2020. We are dedicating 19 – 23 October to highlighting the amazing work colleges do, and why long-term term investment in them is crucial for our future.
Barnsley College is at the heart of its community, working with businesses and helping to educate and train many young people and adult students each year. Despite this, colleges in the country have had to deal with an average 30% funding cut over the last decade. Colleges transform millions of lives each year, shape communities and boost our economy.
For the £33.5 million invested in Barnsley College by the taxpayer in 2018/19 they can expect a return of £120.5 million from students’ higher lifetime earnings. The accumulated contribution of former students currently employed in the regional workforce amounted to £268 million in added income to the economy.
We want the Government to invest in young people and skills so that no-one is left behind. We believe that an investment in support of higher educational attainment is an investment in the workforce of the future.
As part of Love Our Colleges Week, an initiative by the Association of Colleges, we are celebrating our impact on the local area, continuing to help towards growing and supporting individual sectors, marking innovation, supporting people and communities and looking back on our COVID-19 response.
Join the conversation by using the hashtag #LoveOurColleges and tagging @Barnsleycollege in your social media posts, to tell your friends, family, neighbours and the whole world why you love your college.
